Join us on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm EST to discuss the latest, rapidly-evolving developments in Congo's political crisis. RSVP below.
December 19 marks the final day of President Joseph Kabila's Constitutionally-mandated term in office. Barring the finalization of an eleventh-hour negotiated agreement between government, opposition parties, and civil society organizations - something most analysts consider unlikely - widespread protests in Congo's capital, Kinshasa, and beyond are expected. The DRC government has responded violently to peaceful protest in the past, most recently in September 19 when more than 50 civilians were killed by government forces.
